Educational Requirements for CRNAs
A CRNA
is a licensed Registered Nurse who
has completed a post-graduate course in anesthesia and has successfully
completed the certifying examination.
The post-graduate
work includes 24 to 36 consecutive months of education and clinical
experience. After successfully writing the national certifying exam
to become a CRNA, ongoing continuing education is required to maintain
certification.
Because CRNAs
are licensed as certified registered anesthesia providers, they administer
anesthesia services in cooperation with a physician -- be it a surgeon,
dentist, podiatrist, anesthesiologist or other such qualified practioner.
CRNAs are the oldest advanced practice nurse specialty in Missouri.
